As a Drone, I’m Really Not Great for Aerial Measurement Reports by A Drone

Hi there, I’m a drone! In case you’re not familiar with me, I’d like to tell you a little bit about myself.

Well, first of all, like many of my fellow drones, I’m made with various plastic and metal bits. Pretty fragile, really. One bad turn, and I’m a goner. Also, I sound like an angry, annoying insect. Kind of like that really annoying wasp that won’t leave you alone when you’re just trying to eat a cheeseburger at a family backyard barbeque.

As a toy, I guess I can be pretty cool. But, you know what’s funny? Some companies have decided that I should be used to—get this—measure roofs!

As a drone, I can tell you why that’s a bad idea. First of all, I’m not accurate. There are way more accurate ways to measure a roof. Like, for instance, RoofScope (who’s letting me write this guest blog post—thanks, RoofScope!). RoofScope reports are literally guaranteed to be no less than 99% accurate. Not a single drone involved. Just the highest-quality aerial imagery in the industry.

Beyond accuracy, another problem with using me and my drone buddies for roof measurement is that depending on where you are and what kind of drone it is, you might need a license. I mean, I’m just a brainless drone, but even I have to ask: why get the Feds involved in measuring a roof? Doesn’t really make sense.

Oh and remember that whole thing about how fragile I am? Yeah, well, you ever see a drone smashed all over a roof? It’s not pretty. And don’t get me started about what happens when it’s windy. A nice big gust of wind, and I go from being a drone to a Christmas-tree ornament.

Look, again, I’m just a mindless drone, but I don’t get it. Why deal with the risk, expense, time, and hassle of using one of me to measure a roof? I mean, for one thing, using a drone means you still have to go to the site! It’s not like it’s saving you the time stuck in traffic or the costly expense of all the fuel you burn driving back and forth! If you want to save the time and money and not go through all the hassle, you just pop an address into RoofScope and, boom, in three hours or less, you get a two-page report with excellent imagery and all the information you need to put together a winning bid, and you know it’s going to be accurate!

Well, so, that’s pretty much it. Guess I better get back to doing what I do best: buzzing around people’s bedroom windows with my high-definition camera because that’s totally not troubling at all!
